Code of Ethics

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their guidelines, code of ethics and professional practice standards.


I have professional liability insurance with Towergate insurance and have and have a current CRB certificate.


All information disclosed to a counsellor is treated with the strictest confidentiality.  However, I reserve the right to inform your GP if I consider you are at risk of endangering yourself or others. (e.g. Child Protection Act; Act of Terrorism etc).  Confidentiality will not be broken without prior consultation with you whenever possible. In order to preserve your confidentiality and anonymity, I do not accept social media friend requests and I will not stop and acknowledge you, if we meet outside the consulting room.


Brief written records are kept in including client name, contact details, and GP details. These records are kept securely, and I am the only one with access to them. All written records are destroyed at the end of 3 years of us working together. All texts and emails will be deleted will be deleted within 1 month of us ending our work together.


As a counsellor, I am required to attend regular clinical supervision, whereby I will present and discuss our work together.  This is a mandatory professional requirement in keeping with the BACP code of ethics.  Your identity will be protected during consultation.   Pleased be assured that any information a supervisor receives is also treated as confidential.

Initial session

Initially we will meet for an introductory session, at which you and I have the opportunity to decide whether we can work comfortably and well together. We then agree, either an appropriate contract, or consider alternative sources of help.


The usual arrangement is to meet weekly at a time mutually agreed at the start of the counselling relationship. Sessions are 50 minutes and usually for an open-ended period of time, but a limited period may be agreed. Either way, an ending is foreseen and negotiated and sensitively prepared for, since good endings are vital for everyone. Because session times belong to the client I am with, I don’t interrupt the session to answer the phone. Therefore, if you need to contact me between sessions, please leave a voicemail or email and I will reply as soon as I am available.

Missed sessions, holidays and breaks

Missed appointments will be charged.  If you give prior notice of 48 hours or more cancelling our arrangement, there will be no charge.  Where possible I well endeavour to reschedule an alternative appointment during that week.  I will give you plenty of notice of when I plan to take holiday breaks and naturally, no fee is payable for those times. If I have to cancel a session at short notice, I will make every effort to rearrange the time.


The fee is £45 for a 50-minute session.

Payment is by cash, bank transfer (your name as reference is fine) or card payment at the start of each session or in the 1st week of each month, as you prefer.

COVID-19 UPDATE: In relation to the nationwide lockdown I am currently unable to see clients in person. However I am able to continue with online  (Zoom) and telephone sessions.  Please let me know your preference at the time of booking.
